The article examines readiness for implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism education. The term “readiness” is defined in the context of transformational thinking and application of innovative technologies in business, education, and journalism. Experience of several countries in AI implementation is explored: integration of AI in higher education (Hong Kong, Sweden); level of students’ readiness for AI application (Mexico); attitude towards AI among journalists (Jordan). Special attention was given to the analysis of readiness to use AI in teaching journalism by Ukrainian university teachers, drawing from experience of Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University and KROK University of Economics and Law. The level of educators’ AI awareness is assessed as moderate, while their opinions on the appropriateness and ethos in AI application vary significantly. In addition to literature review, a number of methods were applied: a comparative method to identify differences between international and Ukrainian practices in AI implementation and application; an extrapolation method for developing recommendations for higher education institutions; secondary research while using Google Scholar database. For the empirical part, an opinion survey of journalism teachers was conducted, which allowed to assess their readiness to implement AI in the educational process. The findings underscore the necessity to develop digital competencies of educators, students, and journalists, as well as to formulate and advance strategic approaches to integrating AI into education and media.
