IMPROVING THE METHODOLOGY OF TEACHING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN A MODERN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

The authors of the article devoted it to considering issues of improving foreign language teaching at the technical university, the possibility of using active teaching methods and organizing the beginning of the 2022-2023 academic year in extraordinary conditions. Teaching a foreign language is traditionally considered a priority at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. It is conducted with a focus on a speciality and using the newest technologies, distance learning methods, Internet resou rces, etc. The authors analyze partici pation in special trainings that were organized according to various methods; in particular, they describe the intensive method of Kytaygorodska, the dynamic method of Michael Gott, and others. The article describes the British Council project “English for Universities”. The goal of the project is to increase the level of foreign language proficiency of university students. Within the scope of the project, the teachers got acquainted with modern methods and forms of teaching the English language for specific pu rposes and studied innovative approaches to assessment. The authors describe the experience of the Faculty of Linguistics of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute regarding the use of well-known IT platforms for distance group classes, Web seminars, new assessment tools and other technologies for active foreign language teaching, in particular English.
