PREPARING TEACHERS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CIVIC COMPETENCIES OF STUDENTS DURING IN-SERVICE TRAINING

Abstract

This article presents a qualitative study of teacher training for the formation and development of students’ civic competencies in the context of the modernization of the Ukrainian education system and the implementation of the main provisions of the regulatory documents of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. A comparative analysis of the key competencies defined in the EU («Framework for updated key competencies for lifelong learning») and in Ukraine («New Ukrainian School. Conceptual framework for secondary school reform») is carried out, and the approaches of scientists to the interpretation of the concept of «civic competence» are analyzed. Attention is focused on the need to prepare teachers for the formation and development of students’ civic competence, in particular, during the in-service training of teachers, and the priority activities in this aspect are identified. The author emphasizes the expediency of developing students’ personal qualities both during the lessons of the social and humanitarian cycle and during the study of other subjects. It is also possible to work on the development of students’ civic competencies during extracurricular time – through individual or group projects, thematic events, and the use of interactive and gaming technologies.
