BIBLICAL TEXTS AS CONCEPTUAL SOURCES OF TARAS SHEVCHENKO`S SOCIO-ETHICAL IDEALS

The article examines the issue of Taras Shevchenko’s use of biblical themes, plots and personalities in artistic texts. The creative and personal need of the Ukrainian artist to turn to universal Christian ideals as models of evangelical virtue and philanthropy is analyzed. Special attention is paid to the depiction of the tragic images of Jesus Christ, Mother of God and first Christians in T. Shevchenko’s poems “Neophytes”, “Mary” and other works. The audience orientation of Shevchenko’s poems and prose texts on religious themes in the 19th century is studied and the problem of the relevance of these works in modern society is raised. The researcher directs her gaze to the significance of religious books and biblical works in the poet’s personal life. The article also examines the stages of the formation of Taras Shevchenko’s philosophical and Christian views and moral and ethical beliefs. The author of the article adresses the issues of faith and religion of the Ukrainian poet and his attitude towards religion and clergy.
