The article contains a brief review of special literature on the issue of "media literacy" in Ukraine and abroad. The main research method in the article is the analysis of legal documents of international organizations and projects that allow to understand, develop and form media literacy. In today's world, there is some pluralism in understanding media literacy as a separate phenomenon. It is important to understand that for modern man it becomes vital to navigate in the information flows that exist. The skill of critically evaluating information also becomes necessary not only at the individual but also at the state level. All sorts of unverified or deliberately unreliable news constantly appear in the media space, and it is simply impossible to protect oneself from such information from the point of view of an unprepared consumer of media texts.
